The small striped &#039;pumpkin&#039; in the right hand photo is actually a gourd (Cucurbita pepo). Grown for its looks rather than to eat and they don’t get very big. There is a pumpkin Cucurbita maxima that gets much bigger and does have similar stripes, but not as distinct. This is known as Buttercup. I grew this last year and it is really delicious, made the best pumpkin soup I have eaten. Diggers sells seeds and you can see a picture on their website www.diggers.com.au.
